Hey there

Your engagement session is an opportunity to slow down, celebrate this season, and create photos that reflect your love story. Seattle offers an incredible variety of backdrops, from coastal beaches and lush gardens to timeless architecture. To help you choose a setting that feels like “you,” I’ve put together a list of some of the best Seattle engagement session locations. Each one carries its own unique charm and beautiful light for your portraits.

Olympia Capitol Building: Architectural Poise

For couples drawn to classic charm, the Washington State Capitol in Olympia offers stunning architecture, stately columns, and surrounding gardens that add a softer touch. It’s a location that balances sophistication with romance, creating portraits that feel both timeless and refined. I photographed a beautiful engagement session here, which you can see here.

Smith Tower: City Sophistication

Built in 1914, Smith Tower was Seattle’s original skyscraper, and it remains one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Its historic architecture and sweeping views offer a sophisticated urban backdrop, while the surrounding Pioneer Square neighborhood adds cobblestone streets and timeless charm. It’s perfect for couples who want a more metropolitan feel while keeping a sense of elegance. I recently photographed an engagement session here that beautifully captured this blend of history and romance, you can see that here.

Christianson’s Nursery: Garden Charm

Located in Skagit Valley, Christianson’s Nursery feels like stepping into a storybook. With historic greenhouses, hidden garden corners, and seasonal blooms, it’s one of my favorite places for romantic, whimsical sessions. You can see a spring engagement session I photographed at Christianson’s here.

Discovery Park: Scenic Variety and Iconic Views

One of Seattle’s most versatile locations, Discovery Park features open meadows, towering oak trees, and dramatic cliffside views. You can wander forested trails or make your way down to the West Point Lighthouse and beach. The park is also home to a row of historic colonial revival houses, which add a touch of timeless architecture to your session. For couples, Discovery Park offers an incredible variety within a single setting; natural greenery, coastal charm, and classic architecture all in one.

Woodland Park Rose Garden: Classic Romance

If you love the timeless feel of roses in bloom, this garden near the Woodland Park Zoo is a hidden gem. With manicured pathways and more than 200 varieties of roses, it has a quiet charm that feels straight out of a storybook. It’s a setting that feels both romantic and timeless, perfect for couples who want classic beauty in their portraits.

Each season offers something new, from spring blossoms to colorful autumn leaves, making it a beautiful choice year-round.

Rattlesnake Lake: Mountain and Lake Views

For couples willing to head just outside of Seattle, Rattlesnake Lake offers a more adventurous feel. Surrounded by pine trees and mountain views, the lake creates a breathtaking backdrop. The iconic tree stumps that line the shore add a unique element to the scenery, making it especially striking in photographs. Rattlesnake is beautiful in the early morning or evening, when the light reflects softly off the water and surrounding hills.

Golden Gardens: A Beachside Escape

Golden Gardens offers sandy shores, grassy dunes, and sweeping views of the water. It’s perfect for couples who love the relaxed, coastal feel of the Pacific Northwest. The beach is known for its golden sunsets, a stunning backdrop as the sun dips behind the Olympic Mountains. One of my favorite features here is the small copse of trees that grows directly out of the sand, creating a unique, woodsy corner right on the beach. With both grassy areas and shoreline to explore, you can enjoy a mix of playful barefoot photos in the sand and more romantic, windswept portraits by the water. This spot is especially meaningful to me since it’s where I was married, making it a place I’ll always hold dear.
